Thoughts of Harold Lane
I was sad this week to hear that Harold Lane has joined those who have gone before us to Heaven. I didn’t realize he was sick so this was unexpected for me.
I’ve known about Harold for as long as I can remember but the first time I remember seeing him was on the Gaither Homecoming Video, Reunion. A while later, I got a copy of the Speer’s 70th Anniversary video and I loved to watch Harold harmonize with Ben Speer on the second verse of “I’m Standing on the Solid Rock.” I never had the opportunity to meet him but he seemed like a sweet, humble man. Our loss is Heaven’s gain but I’m thankful that I’ll have a chance to meet him in a place where we’ll never have to say goodbye again.
Greetings, I am honored to say I am one of Harold “H” Lanes Great Nephew, I too have never met my uncle Harold,I have heard nothing but the kindest, sweetest, honorable words spoken of him and now can only wish I could have spent a lifetime around him. I can see from the many stories I have heard of him and the Integrity Good Morals Christ Centered Life he lived.
I can say that I heard one story that sticks out; It was when Uncle Harold and John Booth were in Huntington,W.V. heading up 5th street hill when on the radio an announcement came on saying President Kennedy had just been shot,Mr. Booth said, he saw a tears come into Harold’s eyes and Harold pulled over to the side of the road and said “We need to say a Prayer for the President, his family and our country” and then he continued upon their way of getting sheet music for the school competition.
Thanks John Booth for such a touching story.
I too know that Harold is ‘Walking those streets of gold’ and ‘standing on a Solid Rock’ at Peace with Jesus singing loud & proud as the newest member of GODS choir (-8
Thank you so much for sharing that story. I love stories of examples that portray what a Christian should look like. I’m sorry for your loss but praising God that it’s not an eternal parting.
I hope it’s not too late to post a comment. I too was saddened to hear of Harold Lane’s passing, but at the same time, rejoicing that he’s with our Lord, and finally free of all of his pain and suffering. I remember Harold from years ago during the early 60’s when he was with the Gospel Harmony Boys. Whenever they came to the Parkersburg, WV/Belpre-Marietta, OH area, my dad always took us to hear them. We just absolutely loved them. Years later, when Harold was with the Speer family, they came to Parkersburg to give a concert at one of the local churches. One song they did that stands out in my memory was “Palms of Victory.” Harold just belted it out as only he knew how, and it brought the whole audience up out of their seats. I think that now he’s wearing those palms of victory. Rest in peace, Harold. We’ll see you again someday.
Thank you for your comments, Judy. I love hearing testimonies of how men and women of God touch others’ lives. It makes me want to be one of those saints of God. I hope Harold got to see at least a small portion of the lives he touched.
I think he did, Elise. If he wasn’t aware of it in this life, I’m sure the Lord brought it to his attention.
