Favorite Hymns

Do you have a favorite hymn? Mine changes from time to time but one that always lifts my spirits is “Higher Ground.” I especially love the verse which says:

I long to live above the world
Though satan’s darts at me are hurled
For faith has caught the joyful sound
The song of saints on higher ground!

What hymn is especially meaningful to you? I’d love to hear about it.

My favorite hymn is “He Hideth My Soul.” Growing up, I loved it because it has a beautiful alto part (always important!). Through the years, however, I have grown to love the imagery of Jesus covering me with His hand.

Like most things, I have difficult choosing one favorite. One a more positive note, with hymns – I can narrow it down to two. Near the Cross and Great Is Thy Faithfulness.

Great Is The Faithfulness reminds me to look back and see God’s hand in my life when I’m allowing worry, stress, and doubt to come into my mind. It is a sweet reminder that each day, He freely gives us mercy.

Near the Cross keeps me in check. It reminds me to glory in the Cross and nothing else. Whenever I feel my focus drifting to someone or something else, I think of the line in the chorus of this hymn that says “In the cross, in the cross, be my glory ever.”
