After 14 years, I was blessed to be able to attend the National Quartet Convention again this year. All of the groups were top notch, and I was struck by how many songs I heard with strong lyrics. This has been hit and miss in our genre through the years, so it’s nice to hear so many good songs.
The lineups I was most excited to see were Gold City and The Inspirations. Neither group disappointed. Of special mention was The LeFevre Quartet. People tend to go for dynamic instead of steady, but I am grateful for those who are faithful regardless of whether or not they are drawing the biggest crowds, and Mike LeFevre fits that category. The group celebrated their tenth #1 song at the convention.
When Claude & Connie Hopper went off the road, I’m sure a lot of fans were concerned about the future of the Hoppers. However, Dean, Kim, and Karlye are holding their own. I encourage you to see them if they come to your area.
One of the highlights for me was seeing the Signature Sound … Then and Now showcase. I have followed them since they began so it was nice seeing original members join the current group to sing some of their old favorites.
Next year, NQC will be celebrating their 70th Anniversary. I’m sure they will plan some great things as part of their celebration.
