New Website to Honor Priscilla McGruder
A couple weeks ago, I was contacted by a lady named Anita Miles who asked if I would write a tribute to Priscilla McGruder for a new website she was working on to specifically honor Priscilla. I checked out the website and I have to say Anita is doing a great job. I wanted to give her a little time to get up some more posts but she’s been adding posts regularly so, for those who loved Sister McGruder, you will want to check out this website. Be sure to leave her some comments and let her know what a great job she’s doing.
Channing Eleton’s Facebook Page
Some of you will remember Channing Eleton as the pianist for such groups as Poet Voices and Gold City but you may not have heard of him for a while. I’m happy to announce that he continues to serve the Lord through music, and he now has a facebook page. If you would like to keep up with Channing and are on Facebook, you may click on this link and then click the “Like” button. And if he comes within driving distance, I would encourage you to go see him.
Priscilla McGruder’s Funeral to be Broadcast Online
For those who would like to watch Priscilla McGruder’s funeral service, I just found out that it is scheduled to air live Wednesday, May 5 at 1:00 here. There is a great photo of Priscilla here which I thought you may enjoy as well. She is definitely missed already.
Welcome Back, Chris Allman!
Since starting this blog, I haven’t reported on Southern Gospel News but I wanted to be one of the ones to welcome Chris Allman back on the road with Greater Vision. The first CD I ever received was Greater Vision’s “On a Journey” CD featuring Gerald Wolfe, Mark Trammell and Chris Allman. I’d never heard of Chris Allman before but I felt like he was the one that gave them their sound back then. Since that time, I’ve enjoyed getting to know Jason Aldroup and Jacob Kitson but I look forward to seeing what the future holds for this “new” group. Welcome back, Chris!
The Gospel Greats Great Annual Giveaway
When I first became aware of Southern Gospel music, I was thrilled to find The Gospel Greats radio program. How nice to be able to keep up with the news, the top radio songs, hear interviews, etc. It came on around 4:30 Sunday afternoon on WTRM out of Winchester, VA and, although our evening services started at 6:00, I rarely missed a program.
I don’t currently have a local radio station which plays The Gospel Greats, but I am thankful that I can listen online from time to time and one of the highlights for me is when they do their Great Annual Giveaway. I’ve never won a cruise but I have gotten some CDs that have become favorites and I got a trial subscription of Singing News one year. The Giveaway for 2010 starts this weekend and I am looking forward to being able to participate once again. This is the first of four weeks in which they will do the giveaway and you may enter once for each of those weeks so, if you can enter that often, it increases your chance for winning. The only requirement to entering is that you have to listen to the program which, for a Southern Gospel lover, is not difficult at all. Information about the giveaway may be found on The Gospel Great’s website.
Let me also take a minute right now to congratulate The Gospel Greats on 30 years of broadcasting. That is a long time but praise the Lord that they are still pointing people to the Lord. I pray they continue for many years to come.
The Freemans are Back in the Studio
It’s been three years since the Freemans released “Eyes on the Prize” but I’m happy to report that they are back in the studio working on a brand new project. I’ve heard a couple of the songs from it and, if what I’ve heard is any indication of the rest of the project, it’s going to be good. If God brings them to your mind, I’m sure they would appreciate your prayers during this time.
